The White Rose: Voices from the German Resistance
This special concert is a collaboration with The White Rose Project in Oxford, a fantastic initiative run by Dr Alexandra Lloyd seeking to raise awareness of The White Rose society in the UK.
In 1943 five students and a professor at the University of Munich were arrested, tried, and executed. They were members of The White Rose (‘Die Weiße Rose’), a clandestine group who wrote and distributed leaflets calling on Germans to resist Hitler. Choral works will be performed alongside readings from the White Rose resistance group’s letters and diaries. The majority of these texts have never appeared in English and speak movingly of courage and conscience.
